Law of Cause and Effect

Have you ever sat and thought about the fact that the world is different for absolutely every single person on it? That it is shaped entirely by how we are processing the present moment? This is the Universal Law of Cause and Effect. On the surface, pretty straightforward… and, to be fair, in reality, it is pretty straightforward. But it's when you start looking a little deeper into it, that’s when things start to fall into place and that little bubble of excitement starts in your belly!

It's exciting stuff!!

Ok, so basically this law states that for every cause, there is an effect, kind of like Newton’s third law “for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”. But that sounds way too blah in my opinion. Instead, I like to call it …“the law of what if”! See? Sounds so much more interesting now, doesn’t it?! It is one of my favourite laws, and even now, as I write this, my toes are getting all scrunchy and my belly is dancing the Riverdance, hoping that you will get just as excited by it as I am!

Now, we can say that this law is demonstrated perfectly by the butterfly effect (the idea that a butterfly’s wings can have universally felt effects on reality millions of years later) But, again… lets funk this bad boy up a bit and bring in a fabulously classic (and sickenly “chick flick rom com”) film to use as our example. The film?

Sliding Doors.

Oh yes. That 90’s masterpiece filled with fashion as dodgy as Gwyneth’s English accent, shows cause and effect perfectly. What would happen if...? If you had just caught that train? If you had turned right instead of left? If you had said yes instead of saying no? What if? Now we can bring this law to life!!! Oh, and also spend an evening watching the film with a glass of something yum, because, well, it is research. Obviously.

Ok, to get all serious and away from “rom coms” for a second… our brains are machines which gather our thoughts - our memories, experiences, beliefs, etc – and create our current life experiences. Everything that is happening to us is a by-product of how we are processing this current moment. The thoughts, decisions, and movements we make right now, are shaping our future. We can literally change our reality by changing our mindset and the way we think. That’s pretty exciting, right?!

Another way to look at this law is to know that it is often referred to as Karma. Not in a “good and bad” way (the Universe is neutral to these words. It's only us that decide what is good and what is bad…but that’s a whole other bag which I won’t open now!) It is more about the energy that we put out, the person that you are being. If you put more joy, abundance, love, etc out into the world, the more you shall receive in return (a fact I am pretty sure that you know by now!) It's all you.

One thing that is worth thinking about now that you know this, albeit briefly because it might get depressing, is that your life up to this point reflects the decisions you have made and how you have viewed yourself and your worth so far. Your habits and beliefs are your cause, therefore your current present is the effect.

Just going to take a second to let that sink in.

Enough. No dwelling.

Now, moving forward from here, now that you know that you can literally shape your own reality, let’s use this to kick us into shape, get clear on what we want, get this mindset set in stone, and unlock this potential once and for all.

You can do it.

You know you can.

And if you know you can, then it will happen. The universe says so.
