You’ll never guess…

Nikki Gundy Reading Notebook

Last week in my Inner Magic Facebook group, I asked my members to tell me something about themselves that no one would know and I absolutely LOVED the responses. It was like reading people's most interesting secrets haha.

This week I thought I would use my Monday email to tell you some of mine.

  1. I am a certified Zumba instructor… I have never ever taught a class in my life, but I did do the training when I was 30.

  2. I once auditioned for Hollyoaks. Naturally, I fell apart in the audition and walked out.

  3. I was obsessed with the Buffy the Vampire the Slayer series, I even used to collect the trading cards and display them in presentation albums... #supergeek. I was so obsessed in fact, an old boyfriend and I argued so badly about it, we broke up over how much I fancied the male lead vampire character, Angel. #ifyouknowyouknow

  4. I am the youngest of four siblings but there are only two of us left now. We lost my brother 15 years ago and my oldest sister just over three years ago.

And finally,

  1. This isn't the first time I've had my own business. When I was 24 years old (I had just become a first-time mum to Charlie) I started a little baby product company from my dining room. As per usual I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, and just as one of my products was about to get featured on the Paul’ O'Grady show on Channel 4…. I got sued by a massive global baby company.

I have never been so scared or felt so stupid to have tried to set up a business. Luckily they settled with me out of court for a reasonable (ish) amount of money after they realised I was just a 24 year old mum making stuff in her front room. I did however learn a valuable lesson from that lawsuit. Ignorance is not a defense.

This last fact about me, stopped me from pursuing my goals or dreams for a long time after because I felt like I couldn't trust myself.  However time really does heal all wounds and slowly the harsh lesson turned from “I can’t trust myself because I don’t know what I’m doing” to “I CAN seek advice first, learn from others second, and build the trust back to follow my intuition.” and I'm grateful for that.

If you take anything away from my big business fail, I hope it’s this…

There is always another way. Even when you’ve been burned in the past, even when you’ve failed miserably time and time again. There is ALWAYS a way to achieve your goal and everything that went wrong before only makes you more likely to win in the end. So take what burned you and put it to good use.
