Where are you?...but really though

Get comfy, we’re getting a bit deep today.

Whenever I work with a new client, one of the first things I ask them to do is to get really clear on where they actually are. Carl Jung (psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and founder of analytical psychology) says,

“We cannot change anything unless we accept it.”

“People will do anything, no matter how absurd, to avoid facing their own souls. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making darkness conscious.”

Deep, right? A little bit scary...absolutely?  What I take from this is…

  1. We cannot change anything that we don't know about ourselves, that we have not acknowledged, and most importantly accepted as the absolute truth. (take weight loss for example - How many times have you said being overweight is this problem - when really this is a consequence and perhaps your diet is the real problem. How many times have you convinced yourself that eating a poor diet was just an off week when the truth is collectively it’s been an off year?)

And

  1. Creating change for the better doesn't start with our goals and chasing our dreams. The first step is getting really clear on what the problems really are...and most importantly how we have actively contributed to them every single day with our actions, our behaviours with our thoughts, and our beliefs.

So this week, in order for you to go after your dreams and big goals, I want you to ask yourself the following questions first.

  1. What is the problem, the real problem?

  2. How am I participating in this problem? What do you say to yourself daily, what are your daily actions & behaviours that contribute to it)

  3. How is this problem affecting other areas of your life? Does it show up in relationships, at work, on holiday, in your confidence or self-worth? What does it stop you from doing?

And now that you are getting really clear on where you really are?

  1. What will your life be like when the problem is gone?

So team - if you want to take your results and your own self-development to the next level…. that’s your assignment.

Find out where you are and how you got here, then the most efficient way to create change will seem more clear than ever before? If you try this out, Let me know what you learn about yourself and what unlocks?
