3 Top Tips For Getting A Workout In With A Baby

1) Game changers wear activewear

My number one tip is to wear your activewear first.  Regardless of what time of the day you work out, get dressed in your fitness wear it until your workout gets done.

If I am dressed in activewear I am visually representing my intention and my mindset. I am READY TO GO. If baby is happy or baby naps, I can go straight into my work out without delay. If I had to get changed first, I would talk myself out of it every time.

2. Baby makes the rules (and that’s ok)

You are not in charge of your fitness schedule… Your baby is. I spent six weeks worrying, beating myself up, trying to get my baby to cooperate when I decided I wanted to work out. If I planned to workout during morning nap time, my baby would refuse to sleep. If I planned to do it once James got home from work, baby would want to cluster feed from 6 pm until 12.

I learned pretty quickly not to try and force a schedule.  Instead, I concentrated on making baby happy.  If she was content and happy she was more likely to sleep and sleep well. Then. As soon as she settled nicely in her bouncer or went down for a nap, I took my opportunity to workout then.

3. Set yourself up to succeed

Getting results is NOT about doing the hardest version of each exercise as quickly as possible. Results come from moving and engaging your muscles to the best of your current ability. It doesn’t matter if you are doing push-ups on your knees or jump lunges without the jumps.  If you are working to your maximum it doesn’t matter what difficulty the exercise is.

Don’t be afraid to modify the exercises so they are achievable for YOU. So you can do it well, do it with control and do it with maximum effort.
